BeatingTheClose publishes previews and predictions for the ATP and WTA tours. We write for fans who want to know what to watch and for bettors who want a second opinion before the first serve.
How we work
- Our own model
- Every prediction starts from a match model we built and run ourselves, not from someone else's tips.
- A news check
- Injuries, travel, heavy weeks and withdrawals can move a match. We check before we publish.
- Market context
- We show the market price next to each pick, so you can see where we agree with it and where we don't.
- Graded in public
- Picks are published before the match and never edited afterwards. The result goes up next to each one.
Why the name
Results are a slow, noisy way to judge a prediction. A 70% favourite still loses three times in ten. The closing price, the last market price before a match starts, already reflects everything known about it.
Getting better prices than the close, again and again, is the clearest sign that someone is ahead of the market. It's the bar we set for ourselves.
